Information for the Mums

Yes weddings are all about Brides, however, Mum  you carry a very important role in this wedding and don't forget, you will be in the limelight too.

What was the first thing you did when you found out your son or daughter was getting married?
Did you think back to your very own wedding?
Did you think of the million and one things that have to be done?

Did you eventually think "What am I going to wear?"

As a Mum, all you want is for your son or daughter to enjoy the day of their dreams. You may spend the next few months bending over backward to help this happen, but don't wear yourself out doing so.

No matter how much you feel you need to be involved, keep in mind the limitations to your involvement.

You will read many rules, expectations and guidelines that define the role of the Mother of the Bride or Groom in any wedding ceremony. However, at the end of the day, I agree with Emily Post who says,

"...to make the dream come true requires time, effort, and major doses of the three C's of wedding planning - consideration, communication, and compromise."

As you will both be in the limelight during the Wedding Day, both Mums need to dress the part. In order to do this, you need to know
  • the theme or style of the wedding
  • the colours associated with the wedding
  • what each other are wearing

With my Image Stylist hat on, I have worked with many Mother's of the Bride or Groom, helping them decide the most appropraite attire for their weddings. I recall one Mum of a Bride who was sick of looking 'old and frumpy',  so for her fourth daughter's wedding she called me and enlisted my assistance. She brought photos with her from her other daughters' weddings and I told her once she decided upon an outfit, have someone take your photo and compare your appearance with that of the previous weddings - quite often, we cannot see how we look in a mirror - photos can be very helpful in really seeing how you look.

Secrets for a Mother's success

Your overall image as a Mother in a wedding is one of elegance and control. Elegance and control are achieved through both your physical appearance and your behaviour.

Elegance and control in behaviour on the day can be enhanced through the engagement of managemyweddingday.  Having someone else run around, moving flowers, clearing the church, ensuring everything comes together as planned takes away a lot of your stress.

Less stress means a more controlled look - a more controlled look is an elegant look

An elegant look is also one where all parts of your body are sitting where they should. There are many ways to support our body as we age. Check out the body smoothing attire I have available in my Buy Stuff Now page. They can give you the sleek, firm look that is elegance and control.

Wearing high heeled shoes can be something that not all Mums are used to. Insolia® weight shifting inserts placed in your shoes relieve the pain of high heels, which can be a great benefit on the Wedding Day. Check out my  Buy Stuff Now page to purchase your Insolia® inserts.
